This project consisted of a single level building on a slab-on-grade foundation. The soils in Whitehall, MT teamed with the higher water table required structural fill under the footings and against the foundation walls to provide adequate structural support to the building. Whitehall is also known to have higher winds than other locations in Montana, which was somewhat challenging throughout construction.
The position of the building was critical on this project in order to accommodate high winds and visibility for advertising to the interstate traffic. Diamond completed the site work and concrete just prior to inclement weather of the late fall/winter. The building is wood construction, with lap siding and a membrane roof system. The site work included over-excavation, structural backfill, asphalt paving and sidewalks. The interior finishes for this project were directed by Subway Corporate and included wallpaper, ceramic tile, fiber-reinforced wall paneling and moldings. A covered, exposed wood patio was constructed on the South and West sides of the building to provide cover from summer sun and winds.
